Sustainable Innovation on Digitized Construction and Mining Sites

Construction/Mining must become more efficient & sustainable! IoT and digital services for workers, machines & processes promise to help. Key is a stable, reliable, and independent network connection - ubiquitous connectivity - exactly what proves difficult on large construction/mining sites. Work together with Liebherr to build stable connection to cloud services without local cellular network connectivity using pre-existing devices.

Submission Template

For the participation within the Innovate 2030 program, a common submission template is available. This template will help you to structure your ideas and approaches and to find answers to all relevant questions.

The Submission Template is mandatory to submit.

In addition to this submission template, you will find specific requirements and guiding questions for your use case in the "Guiding Questions" section down below.

You can also complement your submission with prototypes, pitch decks, image and video materials, higher-level concepts, or specific use case-related instruments – simply submit these documents along with the submission template via our platform.

Criteria & guidelines

In Scope

  • Service software at mobile devices
  • Focus on carrier service establishing a stable and reliable connection
  • Solutions that work on available cell phones (apple and android),
  • Data transmission to cloud: at least Hourly update possible or permanent preferable
  • Data transmission between machines: IP based communication layer 3: layer 4 TCP and UDP
  • Autonomy communication distance between two gadgets
  • Latency time, data rates and jitter
  • Reliability and stableness of connection

Not in scope

  • Solutions requiring additional equipment
  • Campus networks or newly build mobile infrastructure (e.g., masts with costs > 500EUR)
  • Local IT infrastructure on construction site
  • Machine data transmission from the machine to the carrier solution

Guiding Questions

The mission is clear, but you are invited to think further to accelerate the development towards a more sustainable, more efficient, more environment friendly construction industry. The following guiding questions are for your inspiration, and it is not mandatory to answer all of them.

  • How can available hardware like smartphones support the data transmission or the solution proposed from you?
  • How can we ensure data transmission between machines and cloud services without a cellular connection?
  • What key performance parameters can be achieved with your solutions according to communication distance between two end points, latency time, band width?
