Future of smart inventory for turbine components
Manufacturers of wind turbines are operating worldwide offering their services far beyond sales - such as maintenance or repair services. However, the turbines are distributed worldwide and are therefore maintained by different providers. Thus, General Electric is looking for digital solutions to provide a digital-mappable inventory of the manufacturer's wind turbine fleet components that have been installed and modified in recent years, as well as a long-term system to have real-time and up-to-date turbine component information.

Criteria & guidelines
The following must be considered in the development of the final solutions:
- Integrate with existing Product Life Cycle (PLM) system: Corella
- User efficiency key factor. Must have minimal impact on field technicians that will be collecting information from the existing fleet.
The following approaches should NOT be considered:
- New PLM system
- New (separate) database that is not able to be integrated into the PLM system.
Knowledge Base
- As-Built Bill of Material (BOM) is available for all turbines. The Innovation will be able to confirm via field tech inspection and generate an As Operation BOM.
- As-Built BOM has been generated by scanning bar code on ~ 50 key components during the initial field assembly. A similar approach could be a solution to updating BOM as well.
