Who is the Challenge-Giver?

The BKK VBU (Traffic Engineering Union) is a German health insurance company based in Berlin. With more than 40 service centers in seven regions and over 1,000 employees, the health insurance company serves over 550,000 customers throughout Germany. 25 years ago, the BKK VBU had only two employees and 533 insured persons - today, the health insurance company is one of the 30 largest health insurance companies in Germany.

We live in a fast changing time, in which needs, living and working habits change. BKK VBU responds to this with reliable values and goals that help to create orientation. Here you can learn more about the corporate culture of BKK VBU.

The vision of BKK VBU is to belong to the 20 largest health insurance companies in Germany (currently ranked 26th out of 105, stand 01.02.2020). The political framework conditions only allow a corresponding growth primarily through mergers - BKK VBU has proven merger expertise (9 mergers in the last 10 years). They have realigned their strategic orientation in 2019. The focus is on the approach "We improve our customers' lives by looking at the world through our customers' eyes - by growing and constantly developing - by having capable and motivated employees".

When making decisions, BKK VBU always keeps the effects on people and the environment in mind, because health is their core business. The health insurance company takes its social responsibility seriously and makes sure that it is a fair partner for its customers.  It is important to BKK VBU to promote the exchange with its stakeholders, to do justice to its employees and to handle the available resources carefully and sustainably - for social, economic and ecological reasons. In 2016, BKK VBU was the first health insurance company to introduce a CSR strategy, with which it actively works every day to achieve a more sustainable world.

How long does the Challenge run?

The end of qualification phase is 22nd February 2021. The end of the challenge end on 22nd March 2021 with a bootcamp and the pitch-event.

How mature must be my approach?

For the submission it is sufficient to enter your idea or solution approach in the guiding questions of our submission template and upload it on our platform. It doesn't have to be a finished concept with concrete implementation, a visualization of your idea sketch based on one of our tracks is sufficient - well-founded but appropriate to the time you have.

How do I participate?

In the first phase, which ends on 22nd February, you have to briefly describe your idea in a track-specific submission. If you want, you can supplement these two points with additional documents - such as more detailed concepts or drawings. You can find all information about the submission in the "submission" Tab.
Also we have a series of explanation videos that describe how you can participate on our platform!

Can I edit more than one track?

Thats possible, go for it!

What incentives are available?

The winners should not leave the race without a bonus. A total of 5,000 € will therefore be distributed. The bonus will be distributed to the three best teams or participants as follows:

1st place: 3.000€

2nd place: 1.500€

3rd place: 500€

Moreover we have created additional incentives for all those who want to achieve a long-term effect:

In addition to a digital participation, finalist or winner certificate from ekipa, you not only get the opportunity to present your solutions in the members' magazine and in the annual report of BKK VBU - you also get the chance to present your solution in a meeting in front of employees of BKK VBU, for example at staff meetings! This can be done through various formats of the BKK umbrella organization, for example through BKK innovativ or health forums. After completing the Challenge, you will also have the chance for an internship or employment as a working student at BKK VBU and the chance to implement your solution together!

What happens after the deadline?

At the end of the deadline, the submissions will be reviewed by BKK VBU. The final teams that will participate in the Bootcamp on the 22nd of March will then be selected. All participants will be informed about their participation until the 8th of March 2021.

What goals do the client and ekipa pursue with the project?

The goal of the project is to find concepts for the service center of the future that draw the greatest potential from the connection of the digital and physical world and thus enable the BKK VBU to successfully prove itself as an innovative as well as regional life improver and health pilot for (potential) customers and to meet individual wishes.
