Drinking water system

To ensure the highest standards of public health and safety, the landscape surrounding drinking water quality is continually evolving.
Water management involves a complex network of pipes, fittings, and jointing solutions, that must be carefully selected to prevent contamination and leakage, to ensure workers’ safety while also avoiding any risk for people consuming the water.

As Aliaxis wants to remain at the forefront of offering virtuous solutions, such challenges only strengthen our commitment to dare, to care and to deliver – and that’s why Aliaxis wants to join forces with you!”

Challenge

It is crucial to identify new solutions that meet evolving requirements while upholding the integrity of the water management system. Adhesives emerge as the most promising option as they could offer effective bonding while offering a sustainable solution.

Key questions

Which novel adhesive approach for bonding can we utilize to improve the drinking water management system?

The development of new adhesives encounters several key challenges for you to tackle:

  • Complying with evolving regulations while maintaining performance, durability, and compatibility with existing infrastructure, especially PVC & CPVC pipes and fittings.
  • Withstanding the pressures, temperatures, and chemical compositions typically encountered in water management systems without compromising the structural integrity of the system or causing premature degradation.
  • Keeping user-friendly installation processes in mind that are compatible with the selected adhesive materials but also well accepted by installers/plumbers.
  • Providing sustainable packaging in order to build a holistic and viable solution.

Solution Guidance

For Guidance, we provide you with content and guiding questions that you CAN follow to deliver innovative solutions. While these areas are intended to inspire, you can also go with alternative and creative approaches.

Discovery of adhesives as alternatives

Adhesives can play a critical role in bonding pipes and fittings in water management systems, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the entire network.

The research and evaluation process for existing and new adhesives involves a multifaceted approach. It entails analyzing and understanding the key characteristics and properties that adhesive materials must possess to pro-actively meet future and upcoming regulatory standards and customer needs. These characteristics may include compatibility with different pipe materials (especially PVC or CPVC), durability under varying pressure and temperature conditions, ability to maintain a strong and reliable bond over the long term and, free from any CMR components.

Step 1: Analysis of Regulatory Standards & Required Characteristics

  • What are the key characteristics and properties that adhesive materials must possess to meet current and future regulatory standards while bringing more sustainability to water management systems?
  • How can we ensure that the selected adhesive materials do not cause any contamination or affect the quality of water?

Step 2: Exploration of Sustainable & Clean Solutions

  • Which adhesive materials and components can be implemented as sustainable and clean solutions?

Step 3: Assessment of Compatibility & Performance

  • How can we evaluate the bond strength and performance characteristics of adhesives under different pressure and temperature conditions, along with water exposure?
  • Can adhesive materials be applied to existing infrastructure without causing premature degradation or compromising structural integrity?
