Innovate Sustainable Mobility

The future of mobility must be sustainable! But are we really open to shift to an electrified and sustainable world and stop using vehicles that are responsible for more than 10% of global carbon emissions? We need to change and drive the innovative transformation in industry, infrastructure, society and the combustion culture. If we want to overcome the obstacles and succeed, we need to exploit new digital opportunities. Start your idea engine and drive a major change that makes mobility holistically cleaner, safer, and more sustainable.

Current Obstacles

Current obstacles from the perspective of car owners that Capgemini identified:

  • Range Anxiety: Will I get to my destination or to the next charging point or will I run out of battery?
  • When buying my car, what do I need besides my electric car and how does it work? Wallbox, Cables, …
  • Today I go to the gas station – what do I need to do to recharge my electric vehicle?
  • Am I really acting more sustainable now that I‘m driving an electric car? Where does my battery come from?
  • Do I get any benefits from being more sustainable?
  • Are there any other ways to do my trip even more sustainable?
  • How long can I drive my electric vehicle? When is my battery broken and needs to be replaced?

Important: The Solution should not just answer one of these obstacles but should take a more holistic approach to our key question. You can also identify and work on more than the given obstacles as long as you are answering the key question.

Sustainable Mobility – a needed shift

The shift towards sustainable mobility is required because of various reasons that can also give you inspiration while developing your solution:

  • Customer demand: Customers demand for sustainable solutions, not only with regards to the carbon emission, but also regarding human rights and raw material sourcing
  • Regulations, e.g., carbon emissions per fleet or transparency about the sustainable supply chain
  • New competition such as car makers (Tesla, NIO) or mobility providers (Uber, TIER) put pressure on traditional car makers
  • Marketing: Not the most noble reason, but today companies try to act more sustainable for marketing and thus business reasons
