Sustainable Construction in Rural Regions

Climate action requires broad implementation of new various concepts, which contribute to sustainability according to the various criteria. Sustainable and green construction, for instance, is one of the most relevant areas in which sustainable concepts need to be introduced and applied.

However, in rural areas this trend is not very advanced, because the whole focus often lies on urban development. Therefore, RWZ concentrates on rural development and within the framework of this challenge aims to find solutions on how to implement green and sustainable concepts for construction and energy supply in rural areas.

The following gives you an overview of the different phases and events within the Innovate2030 SDG 13 Program.

Qualification Phase: until February 20, 2023

In this phase, you will have the opportunity to develop new ideas and solutions or to further develop your existing idea or solution. You can either work alone or together in (interdisciplinary) teams.

You have until February 20, 2023, 11:59 pm CET to submit your approaches within the program-specific Submission template.

Calling the Finalists: March 03, 2023

After the submissions are forwarded to the challenge providers they chose 2 final teams that will enter the final phase of the Innovate2030 SDG 13 Program. All teams that submitted will be informed on whether they are finalists or not by mail on March 03, 2023.

Virtual Innovation Bootcamp: March 14, 2023

The final teams will be invited to a digital innovation bootcamp, where they can get valuable input to further develop their ideas and approaches together with representatives from business and science.

For the best possible experience and the greatest added value, the innovation bootcamp combines networking sessions and coaching sessions between the final teams and the representatives of each challenge.

The finalists will be invited to join a virtual briefing meeting in advance of the innovation bootcamp. Please make sure to be available for the bootcamp.

Elaboration Phase: March 15, 2023 - May 03, 2023

With the help of the input from the innovation bootcamp, especially the challenge providers, and the new knowledge that will be acquired up to then, you can now develop and improve your idea.

For this purpose, all finalists will receive a specific WorkAssignment that includes three deliverables (Pitch deck, publication text, concept for challenge provider). The program partners will support the participating teams in this phase. In this phase you also have the chance to talk about the future perspective of the solution provided you provided.

Virtual Final Pitch Event: May 04, 2023

The final event is the highlight of every innovation program. We prepare a full program of keynote speeches by innovation experts, networking sessions, and, obviously, the finalists will pitch their solutions to the challenge providers.

The winners of every challenge will be selected and honored on this day. There will be two winning teams per challenge. The first place will receive prize money of EUR 3,000.

Additionally, we will select the three program overarching winners, who will be awarded...

Furthermore, there will be one social media prize of EUR 1,000 for one of the final teams of the whole program, which shared its steps and processes the most via the social media channels.

Impact Paper: July 2023

As a conclusion of the Innovate2030 SDG 13 Program, we will produce a publication presenting the solutions of the final teams. Herewith, we want to initiate and promote discussions about SDG 13 in society, business, and politics.
