For the participation within the Innovate 2030 program, a common submission template is available. This template will help you to structure your ideas and approaches and to find answers to all relevant questions.
The Submission Template is mandatory to submit.
In addition to this submission template, you will find specific requirements and guiding questions for your use case in the "Guiding Questions" section down below.
You can also complement your submission with prototypes, pitch decks, image and video materials, higher-level concepts, or specific use case-related instruments – simply submit these documents along with the submission template via our platform.
Guiding Questions
This Challenge is calling for the most innovative digital solutions or use cases of existing digital solutions that enhance and foster a green and sustainable social and environmental development in Kigali. That is why you are asked to come up with human-centered innovative and green approaches to creating a resilient Kigali that can be used as a blueprint for more rapidly growing cities in the future.
The following guiding questions are for your inspiration, and it is not mandatory to answer all of them.
General – Transformation to a sustainable city
- How to create a green and future proof city? Which areas of the infrastructure are to be considered? Which processes in the entire urban infrastructure should be transformed and optimized for this purpose?
- Which technological solutions can help to build a greener and resilient city?
- How could needs of the population be identified more quickly in order to promptly address the relevant challenge?
- To create more green spaces, citizens can be educated and empowered to transform their immediate environment in a sustainable way. How can citizen be empowered to do so and what educational approaches could be used to get there? What methods, concepts and approaches could be used to achieve this?
Green infrastructure and recovery
- How can green infrastructure be designed to solve key challenges the city of Kigali is facing?
- How can problems such as air pollution, noise, waste etc. be solved with new green technologies?
- How can resources (e.g., water) be meaningfully reused to provide green space efficiently and cost-effectively?
- How can green public spaces be designed in view of certain climatic conditions and special floral requirements?
- How can public green spaces be used to strengthen the community spirit and motivate citizens to socialize more?
- How can specific local challenges in building and designing green spaces in Kigali be solved?
Resilient city
- What technological solution can help predict and forewarn of certain natural catastrophes?
- What data should be collected for this purpose and how? How should this data be used?
- What solutions can be used to efficiently communicate information and warnings across the entire city?
- How can the overall green infrastructure in the city be improved to mitigate the key problems?
- Disaster prevention: how can concrete natural disasters be better managed?
