To participate in Challenges, you need to quickly register on our platform first.

Participant Criteria

There are no age or degree requirements. This challenge is open for every ambitious mind determined to make an impact with an innovative approach to the topic, no matter if student, researcher, Startup, etc. The language of this Challenge is English.

Remember Your participation is not binding until you submit the form, and the qualification phase ends. You can always withdraw your submission until then. After the deadline, we will count you in. If you should not be able to take part after all, just contact us, we will find a way.

Participation options

Participate alone

You take part individually by clicking the button ‘Join now’ and then the option ‘Participate Alone’ in the following Pop Up. If you change your mind in the course of the Challenge and decide to team up, that’s not a problem. You can find out about your remaining options down below.

Participate as a Team

You already have people you want to participate with? Great! One of you has to klick the button ’Join now’ and choose ‘Found your own team’. If you have already all the members you need, ignore the last question What's the need of your team? in the Pop Up. If you are open to let new members in, fill it out so your team is open for request. Now, all of your remaining team members can request to join the team you founded in the Tab ‘Teams’. Remember they must be registered to join in. Also, every team member is equal, there is no leading position.

Important If you want to participate as a team, every team member who wants to be considered needs to be a participant on our platform.

Join existing Team

You know you want to participate as a team up but don’t have anyone in mind to participate with? Not a problem! Under the Tab Teams you will find an overview of all the teams who are searching for members. Request to join if your skills match what they are looking for and good luck! You can apply for more than one team until you find the right one.

You are unsure whether you want to take part and want to see whats out there first? Not a problem! We can connect you with participants seeking to found a team. You don’t need to be registered to request a matching. Just click the Team-Matching-Channel button next to the ‘join now’ button and you´ll get access to our Matching-Channel on LinkedIn. After matching, quickly register and follow the instructions

ekipa is a full-service provider for innovation challenges with the digital generation. We bring together digital natives with the long experience of established companies and organizations. This results in creative solutions for the great challenges of our society. Our current ekipa crowd consists of more than 10,000 users, among them students, graduates and also young founders. In addition to cooperation’s with nearly 80 universities throughout Europe, which integrate the challenges into the university context, our young company from Frankfurt has more than 350 startups from business incubators and hubs in its network. ekipa thus drives the networking between the young, digital generation and the big companies, opens up unused potential and creates added value for both parties.

To support you during your ideation as well as the team-building process during the qualification phase we offer one free, digital and interactive Design Thinking Workshops in which you will be supported by innovation experts and their methods.

The tracks are not completely distinct from each other. Always think about possible combinations of the tracks to find even more interesting and innovative approaches!

Input in the idea stage as well as further developed into projects/ products are welcomed. Input transferred from another disease is also welcome as long as it is new in the field of rheumatism.

medac focuses on chronic inflammatory diseases within rheumatology, particularly on Rheumatoid Arthritis.

This means that approaches for these clinical conditions are naturally of greater interest. Nevertheless, further rheumatic diseases are explicitly in the scope of this Challenge.

medac is focused on applicable pharmaceutical laws: drug, medical devices, and data protection regulations.

Generally, the EU level of regulations is to be respected. National interpretations and detailings (where in existance) can be considered for EU-4 and UK

Winners should not go out without a prize. Therefore, a total of €8.000 will be distributed. This will be divided between the top three teams or participants as follows:

• 1st place: 4,000 euros
• 2nd place: 2,500 euros
• 3rd place: 1,500 euros

Furthermore, there will be more great opportunities at the end of the challenge! Based on your approach and your status, there are different possible further cooperation models:

For students and researchers, there are great job opportunities or cooperation models to further exploit your project together at medac (employment, thesis cooperations, etc.)

For researchers and startups there is a possibility of (research) collaborations and long-term partnerships and licensing models.

medac will pick a maximum of 10 teams that advance to the interview phase and based on the interviews a maximum of 8 teams that will advance to the elaboration phase.
