The ongoing pressure to tackle technological hurdles for new applications and growing environmental sensitivity are confronting the transport sector with a range of new challenges. The standard materials used for many years, such as concrete, wood or rubber, as well as various incompatible coating materials along the tracks are no longer sufficient for a viable and sustainable rail system.
Soaring railroad traffic density and rising ballast loads require enhanced ballast track systems design. The installation of precisely designed elastic elements, for instance, may contribute towards meeting requirements such as sufficient elastic performance to prevent track settlement, to reduce vibrations and noise, as well as to save track maintenance expenses.
