Enabling green transition

Climate protection and thus the issue of sustainability have become increasingly prevalent in recent years and play an ever-greater role in business and society. Credit institutions have been assigned a central role in the green transformation, as financing decisions have a direct influence on investment decisions and money flows. Banks can thus be seen as catalysts in the transformation of an economy. Accordingly, Haspa's wants you to help them deal more actively with the topic of sustainability as well as climate protection.

Enabling green transition

The expanding role of sustainability is becoming clear due to changes in consumer behavior, stricter legal requirements (e.g., for the modernization of real estate) and increasing regulatory requirements for companies (e.g., the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). For this reason, Haspa is committed to supporting its customers in acting more sustainably.

Various studies confirm the growing expression of a sustainability-oriented perception and mindset within the population - especially among younger generations (Y, Z and Alpha). Nevertheless, consumer and financial behavior does not yet reflect this attitude to a sufficient degree. One reason can be identified in the uncertainty of the effectiveness of one's own actions, being overwhelmed by complex decision-making situations, lack of information about funding opportunities, and the non-transparency and complexity of legal/regulatory requirements.

Alongside personal motivation, private households and companies are faced with successively increasing regulatory requirements which, currently, have no universally accessible, qualitative and marketable solutions.

As a possible catalyst in the green transformation of our society and economy, Hamburger Sparkasse would like to identify implementable solutions to contribute the way to a climate-neutral economy and support its citizens and businesses in becoming pioneers in climate protection.

Information on the Challenge

This challenge involves Hamburger Sparkasse, the bank's private and corporate customers, and the City of Hamburg.

Based on the configuration of its loan portfolio, Haspa's leverage lies in the financing of ecological building modernizations and the financing of the green transformation of private and corporate customers. In this context, a systematic process for considering, managing and controlling climate protection criteria in financing projects, as well as an incentive system for giving preference to sustainable projects, would be beneficial.

The challenge is to identify suitable application areas and the corresponding technologies so that Sparkasse can fulfil a concrete driver role in the transition to a green economy.

You can choose one of the following tracks for your idea:
