Status Quo

Current State
Data centers are increasingly being built or operated close to residential areas, where noise regulations and community acceptance are becoming more critical. At the same time, large outdoor fan installations often rely on add-on silencers that achieve noise reduction mainly through bulky, heavy “chimney-like” designs. These solutions can be costly to transport and install and may introduce additional pressure losses that reduce overall system efficiency.
Opportunity Definition
There is a clear opportunity to rethink how noise is reduced around large fan installations—moving beyond today’s heavy, space-intensive silencer concepts toward solutions that are more effective, more efficient, and easier to deploy.
This project invites innovators to partner with ebm-papst to develop and validate next-generation approaches—especially lightweight, integrable concepts—and to generate comparable results in a structured evaluation and PoC environment.
