FAQ

What is TRUMPF looking for?

TRUMPF is looking for a partner to support the development of an advanced demand forecasting solution for incoming orders (Order Intake) as input for production planning.

Today, forecasts are still largely based on experience and manual market observation. While TRUMPF already has access to both internal data (e.g. order history, customer inquiries) and external market signals (e.g. macroeconomic indicators), these are not systematically or automatically processed.

This leads to significant uncertainty in mid- and long-term planning, especially when it comes to identifying turning points, trend shifts, or deviations from expectations.

Core Question

How can your predictive analytics and demand forecasting solution help TRUMPF move from experience-based estimates to a scalable, automated model?

The main goal: Integrate internal and external data sources to improve forecasting accuracy and planning reliability across product groups and markets.

Goals & Criteria

TRUMPF is open to a range of approaches and technologies – whether proven products, adaptable platforms, or research-driven methods.

  • Enable automated data processing and model-based forecasting
  • forecasting quality should be above 15%
  • Integrate and process data from both internal (e.g. historical order data, customer inquiries, sales opportunities) and external sources (e.g. macroeconomic indicators, purchasing manager indices, industry-specific forecasts, regional outlooks)
  • The forecast should ideally account for both order intake in EUR and quantities required for production planning
  • Aim for a forecasting horizon of 12 to 18 months, while allowing for dynamic adjustment based on product and data characteristics
  • Strive for  forecast accuracy of ±15% (quantity deviation) over the defined horizon
  • Be transparent about confidence levels, error margins, or model robustness across product types or scenarios
  • Provide a scalable predictive analytics model that can be deployed on-premise or in hybrid IT environments
  • TRUMPF currently considers the following starting points for piloting, but is open to alternative approaches:
  • A high-runner product group with large amounts of historical data
  • Two contrasting product groups to test model robustness across different characteristics

Your solution may address only parts of these aspects – or bring a completely new approach we haven't considered yet.

What should your application communicate?

You don’t need to submit a complete, market-ready product. Instead, your submission should help us understand the value and maturity of your approach, and where further exploration might be needed.

Please include:

  • How your solution addresses the forecasting challenge, particularly regarding the automated integration of internal and external data sources
  • What parts of your solution are already developed (e.g. working prototypes, existing models, benchmarks, references)
  • What aspects still require development or co-design, and how collaboration with TRUMPF could support this
  • How a potential pilot could look, including:
  • A suggested scope (e.g. high-runner vs. diverse product groups)
  • Key data inputs and availability
  • Target outputs or KPIs (e.g. accuracy, lead time, segmentation)
  • An indicative timeline and budget
  • What kind of long-term partnership you envision beyond the pilot (e.g. licensing, joint development, integration)

We value structured thinking and transparency – even if your solution is still evolving. Share what’s ready, what’s promising, and how we can build something strong together.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for innovative partners who:

  • Have proven experience and benchmarks in predictive analytics and demand forecasting
  • Offer a licensable product, adaptable platform, or exploratory approach suitable for TRUMPF's forecasting needs
  • Are open to co-developing and iterating during the pilot phase

Can provide realistic and transparent estimates for pilot and implementation costs
