What is MTU Aero Engines looking for?
As climate change accelerates, its physical and transitional impacts pose growing risks — and opportunities — for global industries. By 2050, climate-related risks could cost businesses up to 10% of their value annually, while regulatory frameworks like the EU CSRD, Taxonomy, and TCFD demand transparent, auditable reporting.
For a global technology leader like MTU Aero Engines, understanding and managing these risks across its entire value chain — from suppliers to operations to customers — is no longer optional. Current approaches, often based on spreadsheets and isolated analyses, are not easily scalable nor efficient enough to meet strategic and regulatory demands.
MTU Aero Engines is looking for a smart, scalable solution that identifies climate risks, shows their impact on the business, and helps make data-driven decisions for a more resilient and sustainable future.
Core Question
How can we develop a scalable and user-friendly software solution that:
- Identifies climate risks from internal and external data to capture physical and transition risks across the value chain.
- Quantifies climate risks to assess and model financial impacts under different climate scenarios.
- Connects risks to the business model and generate audit-ready, compliant reports.
- Allows Scalability & Usability and integrates with existing systems like SAP.
Goals & Criteria
The solution should be able to:
- Identify both physical and transition risks along the full value chain (upstream, operations, downstream).
- Quantify the financial impacts of risks under different climate scenarios (e.g., 1.5 °C, Business as Usual) through 2050.
- Integrate internal data sources (such as SAP and asset data) and external data sources (such as IPCC).
- Clearly link identified risks to MTU’s business model, enabling informed decision-making and prioritization.
- Provide audit-proof and compliant reporting aligned with CSRD, EU Taxonomy, TCFD, and ESRS requirements.
- Be scalable to additional sites, regions, and business units beyond the proof-of-concept phase.
- Offer a user-friendly interface and support collaborative, cross-departmental use.
- Include scenario selection, regional drill-down capability (to approximately 1 km), and exportable text modules for reporting.
- Ensure EU-based or on-premise data processing and full GDPR compliance.
What should your application communicate?
You don’t need to submit a fully finished product – but your submission should clearly outline:
- What your current solution can already do (platform, prototype, features)
- Which data types and interfaces you can support
- How a PoC pilot could be structured, including a timeline and resource estimate
- How your solution could evolve into a commercial partnership, such as White-label or embedded offering with MTU Aero Engines systems or joint development and business model
We value structured, realistic proposals — even if your solution is not yet complete. Show us how you think, how your technology works, and how it can deliver value for MTU Aero Engines.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for innovation partners who:
- Are open to co-developing and evolving the solution alongside MTU Aero Engines.
