Innovative Solutions against Indoor Air Pollutants

Even though each of us spend around 90% of our time indoors, do you really know what you are breathing when sitting at home?
Air is our vital source of life, so how can we detect, prevent, and eliminate air pollutants to make home a safer space for consumers? Come up with an innovative approach or concept that empowers consumers to improve the air quality in their living spaces and work together with the major brand tesa to make your ideas reality!

In our free and optional Design Thinking Workshops we will help you to innovate your idea and will connect you with other participants - register here.

To really highlight your ideas and bring your point across better, we would advise you to also include some further documents like a more detailed concept, videos, explanations or references to important resources and content.
For further guidance on your approach, take a look at the Key Questions listed down below.

Key Questions

The task in the qualification phase is to bring your idea to the point in a concise way especially based on the submission template and the included tracks. Furthermore, you can guide your work and your ideation process with the following key questions:

  • What innovative technologies, products, services, and solutions can end users use to effectively protect themselves and their own homes from the many invisible dangers of air pollution, ranging from biological sources (viruses, molds, mites) to inorganic and organic chemicals (fine and ultrafine dust, CO, ozone, VOCs)? These invisible dangers might be generated inside or enter the living space from the outside.
  • The goal is to empower the consumer to become active and to successfully protect himself/herself at home – what is the empowerment provided by your approach?
  • Industrial solutions (e.g., filter technology) are already today quite effective against the identified threats – can some of this professional technology become available and attractive/relevant for end-consumers? If yes, how?
  • How can you develop/extend your idea to create a comprehensive solution? NOTE: If you choose the “Inform, Educate & Empower” - Track, you should combine it with any of the others (only covering inform/educate might not be enough as a relevant solution).

tesa Fit and Scope of this Challenge

tesa is looking for innovative approaches that offer solutions against air pollutants at home. This includes air pollutants that are produced indoors or that enter the living space through open windows, doors, etc.

The goal is to empower the consumer to become active and to successfully protect himself/herself at home – therefore, tesa relevant solutions that consumers can identify with are the main goal of this Challenge.

tesa is traditionally a leading provider of adhesive tape solutions, yet extending the brand beyond tapes and adhesives. However, solutions that are based on or involving adhesive technology as relevant feature are naturally close to tesa and may prove as attractive “lower hanging fruits”.

Extending to more disruptive innovation, tesa is also explicitly looking for solutions that are no longer based on adhesive technology if they have extraordinary user relevance and fully meet the brand position (check confidential information available after creating your team/ participation).

Comprehensive solutions, combining physical products with the right service eco-system are most desired – tesa today has a "product centered" business model – ideas should include "physical products" in some way, while pure digital services are of secondary importance. The combination of more than one of the given tracks could therefore lead to more interesting and innovative approaches.

tesa Consumer & Craftsmen (Link to Tab “About tesa”) is a consumer product company so the value created by the solution and the associated business model should be B2C focused.
B2B Business models involving craftsmen are also applicable, but B2C models are preferred.

Fully industrial business models (e.g. new filter material for AC'S to be applied by AC manufacturer) are out of scope.

Solutions should not end up polluting the air more. It is important that solutions do not remove one air pollutant by generating a bigger one.

Within this challenge, tesa is not looking for vaccines or medicine.
