Innovate export packing
A key driver of sustainable production and consumption are the underlying supply chains, the flow of goods and therefore also the way those goods are packed. Address the problem that traditional materials do not necessarily have a positive sustainability footprint! Work together with the logistic-hub duisport and develop alternative approaches for timber-based export packings to align ecological and economic targets.
To support you in your idea and team generation process, you have the opportunity to participate in one of our digital Design Thinking Workshop - register here or find more information here.
✅ Challenge completed 🏁 Winner Congrats to the UK-Poland Group!🏆 Rewards 20,000 € prize pool prize pool in the Innovate2030 project + joint publication with all stakeholders + chance for further cooperation with duisport
Submission Template
For the elaboration of the use cases within the Innovate 2030 project, a common submission template is available. This template will help you to structure your ideas and approaches and to find answers to all relevant questions.
In addition to this submission template, you will find specific requirements and guiding questions for your Use Case in the "Guiding Questions" tab, which you need to consider when preparing your submission.
You can also complement your submission with prototypes, pitch decks, image and video materials, higher-level concepts, or specific use case-related instruments – simply submit these documents along with the submission template via our platform.
The goal is that through this approach (submission template, guiding questions and optional documents), solutions within the overall project can cover a broad spectrum: From concrete digital product ideas to higher-level visions.
Guiding questions
Analysis: What requirements in terms of safety standards, material characteristics, legal framework conditions or process efficiency does the field of export packaging impose?
- What are the technical requirements in terms of the function of export packing?
- What are the legal requirements in terms of the function of export packing?
- What are the commercial requirements in terms of export packing?
- How does the transportation chain effect the requirements in terms of export packing?
- What differentiates export packing from trade packing?
- What is the production process of a traditional export package today and which impact may new or alternative materials have on this process?
- What are the traditional materials used during export packing besides timber (i.e., auxiliary materials)?
- How may other approaches besides packing material substitution enhance the eco-footprint of export packing?
Ideation: Which – ideally local – alternatives for timber packing can be derived from this to optimize both ecological and economic goals?
- How is the eco-balance of such alternative packing materials compared to the traditional materials? Is there the option of re-usability?
- To what extent can auxiliary packaging materials be substituted or saved?
- What influence may new or alternative materials for export packing have on existing infrastructure and production capacity?
- How may a circular economy contribute to sourcing of alternative packing materials?
- Thinking into the future: The only benchmark should not be today's economic status quo. What are the effects resulting from the inclusion of costs that can be expected in the future, e.g. CO2 tax, carbon footprint, etc.?
