CO2 – from waste to value
How can we capture and (re)use CO2? Show us your innovative idea or concept, demonstrate that CO2 could be an important raw material of the future and work together with EnBW to take an important step towards a greener society!
✅ Challenge completed 🏁 Winner Congratulations to Team Carbonauten, Ervin Sivic and Bio-Carb . LinkedIn-Recap der Challenge🏆 Rewards 7.000€ + Chances for further cooperation or job opportunities
Qualification phase
In the qualification phase, the aim is to identify the most promising visions and visionaries. To participate, you have to submit the provided submission template!
Explain which problem you are solving for whom, with what team and what effects this could have on the “Carbon Capture and Use” economy!
You can find the submission template here.
The submission template is mandatory.
To really highlight your ideas and bring your point across better, we would advise you to also include some further documents like a more detailed concept, videos, explanations or references to important resources and content.
Key Questions
The task in the qualification phase is to bring your idea to the point in a concise way. You can guide your work and your ideation process with the following key questions:
General
Take a deep look at the industries that are particularly affected along the carbon chain - including power plants/ gypsum, refineries/ bitumen, chemicals/ plastics, paper/ wood material, construction/ wood utilization, steel/ blast-furnace slag/ cement production or biogas:
- What possibilities arise in those industries? Which "by-products" have not been considered so far? Are there feedback effects from decarbonization that are not yet considered and can be utilized?
Capture and recovery of CO2
- Are there more efficient ways to capture CO2 for example from the air or in industrial processes?
- Are there specific steps, places or locations that are particular suitable for capturing CO2?
- Can you imagine innovative business cases regarding the capturing of CO2?
CO2 re-utilization and products
- Where is CO2 needed to establish new innovative products or processes?
- Are there processes or products for which CO2 can be used as a substitute for currently used raw materials?
- Think broad - possible areas of application can be in materials management, industry, fuels, chemistry, the food sector…
CO2 cycle business models
- Which innovative and economical business cases of CO2 cycle systems from capture to end-use are there?
- What possible risks and side effects do CCU technologies entail?
- Can CO2 circulation systems be coupled with energy and electricity from renewable energy sources? In this way, the potential CO2 uses could be produced in a particularly sustainable manner.
Overall concepts for a CO2 circular economy
- How will the market and the players for CO2 emission and usage develop in the next years?
- What are the overall societal benefits and risks of CO2 utilization?
- How can stakeholders be incentivized to establish a circular economy?
- Are there opportunities for companies that still treat CO2 as waste to cooperate with stakeholders that need or could use CO2?
- Could the development that CO2 is increasingly assigned a fixed price by governments be used to establish circulation systems?
Creativity
- What are we missing out on? Feel free to add a track that you may be developed that we have not thought of.
- You don't see a track that fits your Idea but want to participate? Go for it!
Evaluation criteria
- Degree of innovation
- Creativity and Originality;
- Consideration of the Challenge Briefing and the raised issues
